NBS Payment Solutions Acquires
The Assets of Equinox Payments
NBS Payment Solutions Inc. (“NBSPS”) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Equinox Payments, LLC (“Equinox”). Equinox is a leading provider of payment terminals, applications and supportservices in the United States. NBSPS is a leading provider of payment terminals, applications and services to the Canadian market and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Optimum, Apollo and L-Series Multi-Lane products manufactured by Equinox will complement the NBSPS NOIRE product offering and continue a strong presence for the Equinox brand in the U.S. market. NBSPS has identified significant synergies between the two companies including bringing its expertise in the EMV (Europay-Mastercard-Visa) standard. The EMV standard supports a chip-and-pin identificationsystem and has significant security benefits compared to magnetic stripe card technology. EMV is the accepted standard in Canada and the rest of the world and is expected to be broadly implemented in the U.S. late in 2015.
NBSPS will complete the acquisition through a wholly owned subsidiary in the United States and will operate under the name Equinox Payments, LLC in the U.S. market. Equinox continues to advance its new Apollo line of terminals via Class A and Class B certification efforts with the major acquirers and is on track to complete its successful merchant trials in the United States later in 2014.

My website used to be static html that I created with a little bit of bootstrap help. I love bootstrap - not leastbecause its creator (mdo) is a fellow Hubber - but the truth is that I don’t need everythingthat it does. The truth is that I’m better with markdown than I am with HTML and CSS these days. So, why not make astatic website using markdown? Enter Hugo!
Since I’m a hubber too, I felt obliged to make use of github pages so I googled up thisdocumentation for help withgetting hugo and githubpages to work together. In addition, I wrote this little script to start my local development server so that I can get things right before Ipublish it to the repo:
compute.ruiz.house is my ubuntu compute server here at home. The :1313 is the hugo server port. Since I’m SSH’dinto compute from my Windows machine, I need to bind on 0.0.0.0 so that I can hit compute from my browser here.

I love that my site is static. I love that the content is driven by markdown. I love LOVE that I’m not writing anyCSS and the site looks acceptable. The only dynamic content is the disqus, but it’s allhandled by the excellent onepress theme.
The only remaining question is whether the comments section will be useful or a wretched hive of scum and villainy.
